Welcome to the only island-based solar power plant in the Philippines

Horizontal Divider 2

Pangan-an Island Solar Electrification Project (PISEP) is a Kingdom of Belgium-financed 25 KVA/AC photovoltaic power plant project in Central Philippines. At present, it is owned by the Republic of the Phillipines, through the Department of Energy (Visayas Field Office), and managed by the locally-organized Pangan-an Island Cooperative for Community Development (PICCD)

The solar power plant electrification project on an island is the first in the country where a number of communities are still unelectrified, although photovoltaic technology is not new to the country. Large part of the archipelago used photovoltaics for lighting, water pumping, battery-charging, communication and to power light houses and bouys.

Project Objectives:
1. To provide electricity to the community of Pangan-an Island, Lapu-Lapu City to spin off economic activities in the island; and,
2. To test and show case photovoltaic power generation in the country for further policy making in this field.
